Youth Night

story thumbnail
It was a fantastic night on the 26th May at the Western Australian Golf Club as the Rotary Club of Scarborough celebrated youth and showcased its youth programs. Attendees heard about Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and the Stan Perron award. Past graduates spoke about their experiences and what the programs and awards meant to them. There was some real energy and positivity in the room and all attendees considered it a great event.

The Rotary Club of Scarborough is proud to be partnering with Nulsen  Disability Services in 2022.
Nulsen’s mission is to empower people with complex needs to live their best life.
Our club is sponsoring 3 students from Hale School who are selected to participate in the Nulsen Youth Patron Program.
The Program's purpose is to equip young adults with knowledge and understanding to actively improve the life of people with disability. It also develops the leadership and public speaking skills of the youth patrons, instilling an understanding of emotional intelligence, vulnerability and how to lead with empathy.
This year Nulsen and Hale celebrate a 15-year Program partnership.

Improving reading among WA Indigenous children

The Rotary Club of Scarborough donated $5,000 in March 2017 to support 25 Indigenous children and young people across WA to participate in a program aiming to improve their reading ability. The funds were donated to Indigenous Reading Project, an Australian charity who will provide the children with iPads and access to a support program. The charity  has demonstrated measurable improvements in the reading ability of former participants in Australia, and helps to boost confidence and self esteem.

Saving lives in Ghana

What is it like taking a large team to Africa?  It has probably been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. In mid February, I began leading Rotary members from all over the East Coast of the United States through Ghana. I’ve tried to give the team a warm Ghanaian welcome like I’ve received on my earlier trips. A large trip is a real blessing because each person sees Ghana and our work in a different way.
