Event Details

Join us as we welcome Carly Figgis, Business Development Officer at PBF Australia (Paraplegic Benefit Fund). Carly will be talking about the practical work PBF does to reduce the incidence and impact of permanent traumatic spinal cord injuries.

It is a serious topic, but the presentation will focus heavily on the proactive, on-the-ground programs they run to support the community.

She will take us through their injury prevention programs, which involve speakers sharing their lived experiences across youth, road, aqua, and workplace environments. Carly will also discuss the peer support mentors working directly with patients in Fiona Stanley Hospital's spinal ward, and give us a rundown of how their membership and gifting programs provide financial support for people adapting to life with a spinal cord injury.

Join Us for Breakfast by the Beach

You don’t need to be a member to pull up a chair. Scarborough Rotary is an open, friendly group of locals who meet weekly to share breakfast, hear from interesting speakers, and work on positive community projects. If you've ever thought about checking us out, you are very welcome to drop in.

Join us for a special morning meeting as we welcome Jason Conti from Conti Wines to share the story of a local partnership spanning over 50 years. Conti Wines is one of Western Australia's historic family-run wineries and has maintained a deep connection with the Rotary Club of Scarborough for decades. Jason will be reflecting on this enduring relationship, the history of their vineyard, and the value of long-term community ties.

This presentation also highlights one of our club's key annual social events and fundraisers. Each October, Conti Wines hosts our club for a special gathering and generously provides quality wine at a discounted rate. This allows our members to purchase excellent local wines while generating vital proceeds that directly support our local community initiatives.

About the Event

Join us for an inspiring edition of our Bringing People Together networking series as we welcome distinguished Western Australian, former parliamentarian, and Wheelchairs for Kids Australia patron, Graham Edwards AM.

This special evening will feature an intimate, live-interview format led by a Scarborough Rotary member, diving into Graham's extraordinary life journey, his dedicated public service, and the resilience that has shaped his career. Following the interview, the floor will be opened for an interactive Q&A session, giving attendees the unique opportunity to engage directly with one of our state’s most respected community figures.

Supporting Wheelchairs for Kids Australia

The evening also marks the release of Graham's compelling new memoir, reflecting on his life's challenges, service, and achievements. In an incredible act of generosity, Graham is donating 100% of book sales ($29.95 per copy) directly to Wheelchairs for Kids Australia to help manufacture and distribute purpose-built rough-terrain wheelchairs to children in need worldwide. Copies will be available for purchase and signing throughout the evening.

Drawing on the Foundation’s flagship Water Does Matter initiative, Chewe Nkole will share how Global Empowers is rethinking traditional approaches to water access by moving beyond simply drilling boreholes to building community-owned, self-sustaining water infrastructure systems.

The presentation will explore an innovative model that combines solar-powered water production with local entrepreneurship, creating “Waterpreneurs” who deliver safe drinking water while generating income to fund ongoing maintenance and future expansion. Rather than relying on continuous aid, the model empowers communities to own, manage, and grow their own water infrastructure.

Attendees will gain insight into how this approach is improving health outcomes, creating local employment, and laying the foundation for long-term water independence. The session will also outline the Foundation’s vision to scale the model across Zambia and demonstrate how partnerships between communities, philanthropy, and business can create lasting social impact.

Join us for a wonderful morning as we welcome back Liza Kneebone, a past outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student who is nearing the completion of her university studies as an exercise physiologist. Liza credits her time with the Rotary Youth Exchange program as a foundational experience that helped shape her journey, build her confidence, and guide her towards her passion for healthcare and rehabilitation.

During her presentation, Liza will share reflections on how her exchange experience influenced her personal and professional growth. She will also discuss her journey through her exercise physiology studies, offering insights into the vital role this field plays in improving movement, health outcomes, and quality of life.

This meeting is a fantastic opportunity for members and guests to see the long-term, positive impact of Rotary's youth programs on the lives of local young professionals.

Members are welcome to join us on Saturday, 14th November for our annual club gathering at Paul Conti Wines in Woodvale. This long-standing tradition celebrates over 50 years of friendship between the Conti family and the Rotary Club of Scarborough, offering a fantastic afternoon to relax, catch up, and enjoy great company in a historic local setting.

The event runs from 12:00 PM to approximately 3:00 PM.

This is a private, club-focused event for members, partners, family, and friends. Wine will be generously provided on the day, but attendees are asked to BYO their own BBQ meats, salads, rolls, and soft drinks.

No Limits Perth is a local charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and families experiencing crisis, financial hardship, domestic violence, or homelessness by providing essential household items, furniture, and practical assistance right when it is needed most.

Having recently supported No Limits Perth with a grant, our club will hear directly from Janine about how these funds have been deployed on the ground. She will share details on their ongoing operations, explain the tangible impact our donation has made for local families in need, and offer a heartfelt thank you to our members and supporters for helping them continue their vital work across the Perth metro area.

Join us for a key date in our governance calendar as we host the joint Annual General Meeting (AGM) for both the Rotary Club of Scarborough and our signature project, Wheelchairs for Kids Australia.
