Mike Helm
”Toastmasters”

Mike Helm has had over 30 years’ experience as a senior policy official in the Western Australian Government. He currently advises the Minister for Education on government relations with the State’s universities.
After joining Toastmasters in 2002, Mike became 2007-2008 District Governor (head) of Toastmasters District 73 incorporating Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. Mike is the only Western Australian to have held that position. Under Mike’s leadership, District 73 moved from 46th place in the world, based on performance, to number 13. Mike then chaired the District Reformation Committee which led to Western Australia being approved by Toastmasters International to form its own district (District 17) in 2011. Mike was elected at the 2012 Toastmasters International Convention in Orlando, Florida, to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of Toastmasters International, again the only Western Australian to have held that position. This year, Mike is completing a two-year term on the International Leadership Committee which nominates candidates for the Board of Directors.
