Surviving Polio

The key points that will be to cover are:

  • How I never let my disabilities from the after effects of a Polio infection stop me in my career path, sporting participating in sports and generally living life. How I adapt to situations so I am able participate and be involved.
  • The new research involved with how some of the effects of the disease have been passed on to the next generation. Most people are unaware of this. Polio may get irradiated but shouldn’t be forgotten.
  • A general discussion of the difficulties and lack of knowledge in the medical world of how to treat survivors as they get older. Looking at the current development of callipers, anaesthetic, certain medication that effect Polio survivors.
  • A general overview of the plan by the Australian government to train medical staff on the treatment of Polio survivors when admitted into hospitals. Especially now that many survivors in Australia are between the ages of 60 and 80.
