Policing in WA in 2022

Assistant Commissioner Royce commenced with the Western Australian Police in January 1994, serving in a number of metropolitan police stations and specialist units, before being appointed as a Detective in 1999. Assistant Commissioner Royce worked in a number of detectives offices and between 2000 and 2011, took the lead role in the investigation of a number of high profile cases, developing innovative investigative strategies leading to positive results.

Between 2011 and 2012 Assistant Commissioner Royce played a key role as a Senior Project Officer within the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Intelligence Unit, which was integral to the overall success of the operation. In August 2014 he was promoted to Superintendent at South East Metropolitan District and in 2015 he was promoted to the rank of Commander working at the Metropolitan Regional Office overseeing Metropolitan Region North. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2015.

In December 2017 he was transferred to State Intelligence until his promotion to Assistant Commissioner – State Crime in August 2019. In his role as the Assistant Commissioner, State Crime he is responsible for over 1100 staff within the Serious and Organised Crime Division, Major Crime Division, Special Crime Division, Financial Crime Division, Sex Crime Division, Forensic Division, Licensing Enforcement Division, Property Management Division and Project Vestigo.

Assistant Commissioner Royce is passionate about innovative policing and is a highly visible advocate of WA Police both in his official capacity and in his day to day life where he takes pride in his community and seeks to improve service delivery. He is a board member of Crime Stoppers Western Australia and the Child and Adolescent Health Services Consumer Advisory Council.
