Global Empowers Initiatives with Chewe Nkole

Drawing on the Foundation’s flagship Water Does Matter initiative, Chewe Nkole will share how Global Empowers is rethinking traditional approaches to water access by moving beyond simply drilling boreholes to building community-owned, self-sustaining water infrastructure systems.

The presentation will explore an innovative model that combines solar-powered water production with local entrepreneurship, creating “Waterpreneurs” who deliver safe drinking water while generating income to fund ongoing maintenance and future expansion. Rather than relying on continuous aid, the model empowers communities to own, manage, and grow their own water infrastructure.

Attendees will gain insight into how this approach is improving health outcomes, creating local employment, and laying the foundation for long-term water independence. The session will also outline the Foundation’s vision to scale the model across Zambia and demonstrate how partnerships between communities, philanthropy, and business can create lasting social impact.
