Stiches of Hope has been operating a sewing program in Cambodia for over 20 years and educated hundreds of children and restored dignity to many women and families
The program started as a sewing program to teach people a new skill helping them to find employment or open their own business. This has been very successful.
Education is especially powerful in third world countries and Stiches of Hope has given orphans and low-income families access to education enabling them to become productive members of the community.
Some of the orphans have gone on to become university educated.
Stiches of Hope has a special connection to the Rotary Club of Scarborough as they have been operating the coffee and cake stall at the swap mart for some months.

Club meeting 12th March
We heard an interesting talk from club member Alex Martinez about the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen that emphasises incremental changes to enhance efficiency, quality and overall performance.
Kaizen, meaning "change for the better" originated in post World War 2 Japan as part of the country's economic reconstruction and quality improvement initiatives.
Many Japanese businesses, notably Toyota, adopted Kaizen to systematically refine processes and eliminate inefficiencies leading to improved productivity and economic performance.
An interesting discussion about how Kaizen could be adopted in local businesses and organisations followed.
Club Meeting 19th March 2026
The club heard from Lois Moir, Occupational Therapist and board member of Wheelchairs for Kids, who spoke about rewards and challenges of fitting wheelchairs for kids in countries very different to Australia.
It was inspiring to hear Lois's passion for the project and the difference the wheelchairs make for children and their families.

The Rotary Club of Scarborough joined forces with Mama Respond to host the monthly "Bringing People Together" event at the Karrinyup Shopping Centre.
Mama Respond is doing inspiring work in Kenya and it was fantastic to be joined by representatives of the Kenyan community at our event.

Wheelchairs for Kids and the Rotary Club of Scarborough have a long and proud history together. WFK was originally a Scarborough club project and the two organisations remain closely connected both constitutionally and through common membership.

The Chase the Ace jackpot continues to build and odds of winning continue to improve.
The jackpot is now up to a whopping $935.20 and there are only 3 cards left. This prize will be won in the next two weeks, so well worth buying some tickets at the next meeting.
Don't forget to support the Karrinyup swapmart. This is our club's major fundraiser and enables us to do the projects we do.

Scarborough Rotary - caring
In very tough news for one of our members, the family home of Lahiru and Prashani Mudunkotuwa was recently gutted by fire.
Thankfully everyone is ok but rebuilding the family home will be a long process.
Members are asked to offer support to Lahiru and family in this difficult time.

The Rotary International convention in 2026 will be held in Taipei. Taiwan from 13-17 June.
