Outstanding Club Achievement Award
In exciting news the Rotary Club of Scarborough was awarded a “Club Excellence” award for 2025-26.
This award is based on many Criteria and including:
Goals entered into MyRotary Goal Centre, the quality and the number of those Goals achieved
Attendance at President Elect Training Seminar, District Assembly, Grants and Youth Protection seminars
Achievement of 4 or more new members in 2025-2026
The criteria was based on percentages and not just raw numbers and it takes a well-integrated club to immerse themselves and be represented at each of these events and more, making an impact not only in Rotary but in encouraging members to participate in all things Rotary, keeping up the momentum, member satisfaction and relevance in today’s ever-changing world.
Congratulations to the executive team for 2025-26 and all the club members for this fine achievement.
Exchange Student News
There has been a lot of exchange student news recently.
We recently said goodbye to Manu, our exchange student from Brazil for 2025.26, and met our outbound exchange student, Henry Thiefelder who will be going to Argentina in 2027.
Heny is based in Margaret River and his grandfather was a long time member of Scarborough Rotary Club.
It was also a thrill to welcome Nishani Westermann back to the club. Nishani was our inbound exchange student from Switzerland for 2023.24 and was recently visiting Western Australia with her parents, Thomas and Nicole.
Reconnecting with our exchange students is a real demonstration of the power of the Rotary Youth Exchange program to build friendships and connections around the world.
We are looking forward to welcoming Rebecca, our next incoming exchange student from Italy, later this month.
Four-Way Test Public Speaking Competition
Scarborough Rotary Club recently hosted the annual Four-Way Test public speaking competition for year 10 students. Two students from Carine Senior High School and 2 from Churchlands Senior High School each performed a 6 minute speech that incorporated the Rotary 4 way test.
All speeched were of a very high standard and the winner was Michelle Ochoge from Carine who gave an impressive speech entitled “Has Peace Fled”.
Michelle will now be competing at the semifinals on 20th August.
Separately the Rotary Club of Scarborough also facilitated a 4-way test for year 6 students. The winner was Hannah Holding who gave a powerful speech entitled “We take too many photos on our phones”.
Congratulations to all the participants.
Scarborough Rotary at International Conference
Scarbrough Rotary Club was represented at the recent Rotary International Convention by Past President Darren Meakins, Past President Jim Joseph and Wheelchairs for Kids CEO Greg Hebble.
Greg and Darren gave an entertaining presentation about the Convention and some of the behind-the-scenes stories.
It's fantastic to the see the club and Wheelchairs for Kids represented on the international stage.
The Chase the Ace has now jackpotted to $240.50 and the odds are improving every week.
Be sure to get some tickets to be in with a chance of winning the next time it goes off.
The Karrinyup Swapmart is our club's major fundraiser and enables us to do the projects we do.
The Swapmart has a noticeably larger presence on social media recently, thanks to the work of Laurie Joseph.
A big thank you to the Swapmart team and the Rotarians who give up their time to volunteer on Sunday morning.
