Guest Speaker:  Darren Lomman (previously Dreamfit Founder) talked about recycling plastic bottles. They reprocess and turn them into long strands and use 3D printer filament to make and create useful objects, anything you can imagine.
Currently, all WA waste is either sold to overseas or sent to Eastern state to deal with. He started the Green Batch Recycling plant by making the Purple Bins and distributing them to WA households for plastic bottles. These are collected by Green Batch and used in WA instead of benefiting Eastern states.

His mission is to create a plastic waste collection system within our own state. His requests that he would like to see adopted by everyone:

1.   Use a reusable water bottle.
On average Australians 50 water bottles a year, by using a reusable water bottle you could save over 40 plastic bottles from being landfilled, polluting the oceans or being burned for fuel!

2. Tell your friends about us.
Spread the word about what really happens to our recycling. We think it's pretty shocking and we're sure your friends would find it interesting too.

3. Consider Donating.
If you support what we are aiming to achieve, please consider a 100% will be put towards our education program and building our PET plastic reprocessing facility. In return for your generosity, we would love to 3D print you something special.

4. Get your local school involved.
Most WA high schools now have access to a 3D printer. Filament is expensive - even when you buy it in from overseas. Why not use our 100% recycled filament made from plastic bottles for the same cost. And just when you thought it couldn't get better than that, next year the government is introducing the Container Deposit Legislation (10c rebate on bottles). Schools can collect plastic bottles and trade them in for GreenBatch 3D printer filament for free! For more information check out the printer to plastic program.

5. Educate yourself to reduce, reuse and recycle!
We've compiled some really interesting resources together about our waste and what happens to it. Head to our Useful Resources page to find out more.

Report from NORWAY - Liza Kneebone

The month of May is defined across of all of Norway, By the 17th of May, the national day of Norway. I was surprised to fine that people actually say ‘Happy Birthday” to each other all day, celebrating Norway's birthday. I spent the day celebrating with friends and managed to borrow a friends Bunard, the traditional dress of Norway, made completely of wool and cry warm!

I played my first football match for Broken, which was exhausting! I was quickly altered to how unfit I am! But I still managed to have an amazing fun time on the field with my friends, despite the loss.

May has been uncharacteristically hot here in Norway, with lots of days over 20 degrees; I even managed to go swimming a few times, which I never expected. A lot of days have been spent relaxing in the sun and playing football outside with my friends at the local football field.

I have been feeling really good in May, no real homesickness. I feel like a major element in my happiness are my amazing friends; I have the feeling most students would be almost let down to be sent to a small town like Røros, as the only exchange student and it is by no means a big city, but I am so happy and grateful  I was sent here. I wanted to experience something completely different and I am, which is AMAZING! My closest friends here are my Norwegian friends from school, unlike other exchange students who seem to spend the most time hanging out with each other. The summer break is fast approaching and I can’t wait to make even more amazing memories, and I am trying to ignore the terrifying fact that the halfway point in my exchange is fast approaching.

as far as language goes, its slow and steady. I try to text my friends in Norwegian and I can read a lot more every day, and I am overall really happy with my progress. I was able to attend my Districts presidents meeting this week and speak with everyone and received from compliments on the limited Norwegian skills I displayed. In late June/ early July, I will be moving host families, and I am lucky enough to be staying with one of my best friends until after my birthday in September, so I already know the family well and I know it's going to be an amazing few months of summer.

Overall May has been about watching the world around me exploding into spring, with the wildflowers starting to pop up, and my tan even returning (not that I have ever been very tan). As I am finishing this report I have just finished packing for my 10 days ‘Norgetur’ with the other exchange students around the south of Norway, for which I am very excited!

Hope everyone in Perth is well!
Many thanks,
Liza Kneebone
