NEXT  MEETING  Thursday 18 January 2018 -  6.45am for 7.15am
T G Tan
Exo Planets Outside Our Solar System

Amateur astronomer TG Tan will talk about planets around distant stars and his backyard observatory's role in one of the most important recent discoveries - that of the super-Earth LHS 1140b.   TG is a retired oil and gas engineer who built the plywood box known as the Perth Exoplanet Survey Telescope (PEST) Observatory in 2010 to see if it might be possible to detect exoplanets from the suburbs.  Evidently it is, and TG has now co-discovered 31 planets. Originally from Malaysia, TG now calls Perth, with its better climate for both astronomy and golf, home.

CHANGE OF MEETING TIME, DATE & VENUE

Dear Scarborough Rotary Club Member,

You will recall that our Club along with the Osborne Park Rotary Club helped support the 2016 Young Western Australian of the year Vanessa Vlajkovic. Vanessa is an inspiring young lady – being both deaf and blind – she presented at an International Conference in Denmark – talking about ways to help other young people in her situation. Vanessa is an inspiring speaker.

We have an unique opportunity to hear her speak and join with the Osborne Park Club – on Tuesday 6th February at Central Park, St. George’s Terrace in the City – 5.30 for 6.00pm. This is not far from the William Street train station, and parking is available at central park at reasonable costs. The cost of the evening is only $ 20 per head – including drinks and nibbles.

This meeting will take the place of our Thursday meeting at Karrinyup that has been cancelled by the Golf Club.

We need to provide Osborne Park Rotary Club with numbers by Sunday 4th February – please consider coming to hear a remarkable story from an inspiring young lady.
