GUEST SPEAKER
The Guest speaker today is the departing address from Flyn Hatebur, our exchange student from Switzerland. Flyn thanked the warm welcome, the support and everything that the club, the host families and the members gave him during his year of exchange in Australia. He said the Rotary Youth Exchange programme enabled him to create a more interconnected understanding of the world, the people, and the culture of the different countries. He also thanks the club for giving him the opportunities to visit the Goldfields, Sydney and North West Safari.
Goldfields, first road trip:
1/ got closer to the other exchange student during the bus trip
2/ the outback is very big
3/ driving for 4 hours and not seeing a house unlike in Switzerland where you will see a house within 10 minutes of driving
4/ people are very friendly in the countryside
Sydney,
1/ he reckons Sydney is alive, a tourist city, and Perth is very quiet, like a dead city when comparing the two
2/ he waited 15 hours for the firework, but enjoyed very much
3/ visited Bondi and Manly Beach
4/ the trip is very short but full of programmes that he barely slept
5/ after everything, he thinks the Perth beaches are definitely the best in the world
North West Safari
1) Carnarvon is a great place, it is a very long drive but worth it.
2) great companion during the road trip
3) saw some crazy nature, Monkey Mia, sunset, amazing gorges and the diving was great
4) he got to see things that the Europeans are scared of, like spiders, snakes, scorpions and feral cattle
Flynn said his friend from Switzerland thought that the best thing for the exchange is being away and learning English. However, Flyn thought the exchange is the greatest experience and meeting with different countries’ people and learning about their culture.
VOTE OF THANKS
PP Neil Darch gave a suitable vote of thanks to Flyn and President Paul presented Flyn with an Australian flag together with an Akubra hat among other goodies.
