Announcements

Jerry Pilcher : Received a thank you letter from Life Education, thanking Scarborough Rotary Club for the donation of A$5000.00 to Life Education. So far, the program has benefited over 3000 primary school students.

He also updated members on the latest news from Lisa, our outbound exchange student in Norway. She was having a great time at a music camp but she missed her Host Family very much. She must have been treated very well by the Host Family!

Neil Darch:  As Gordon Hudson is not available this year to go to the Rotary Conference in Geraldton, he needs a member who is attending to take the equipment and the stand to represent the Wheelchair for kids and mind the stall.

Bernie Leach: Reminded members to bring corks and stamps on next week’s meeting.

Bob Phelps: Two of our rotary members are not doing well, Tom Appleyard and Ron Mack.

Hugh Frost: Asked how many Scarborough Club members will be attending the Rotary Conference in Geraldton this April 6-8. Five people put their hands up and two more are unsure.

RYE Flyn : The Inbound Student, Flynn, gave us a brief outline of how his week has been. Most of the time has been at the beach, parties and at Surf Club training.

INDUCTION :  President Mike called on Jerry Pilcher and Hugh Frost to induct our new member Henji.  Jerry gave us a brief introduction of Henji, who studied Science in university, but ended up running the franchise of Red Rooster stores.
President Mike then presented Henji his Badge, the Rotary information booklet, his plaque and the membership card.

SwapMart:  Rob Thompson reported a great day with 262 bays sold with takings of $4298.

Sgt Peter Simpson was then let loose mercilessly on the masses present.

Guest Speaker :
Prof Bob Ziegler is 87-year-old and was born in the US. His family moved to Mumbai, in the north of India, when he was 2. In 1939, the family returned to the US where he finished his high school and university. Prof Bob has travelled the world. In 1989, he followed his wife, Patricia, to settle in Western Australia where she was originally born and bred. He joined the council on the Living Longer Living Stronger program in 2004 and says he enjoys the benefits it brings. He said as we get older, we tend to lose muscle mass which has a negative effect on the whole body, we tend to lose balance and not be as strong and cannot lift things as easily and become somewhat restricted in movement. “Exercising helps to get blood back to the heart. Living Longer Living Stronger gives us a quality of life. Eat well, eat enough but not full.” He recommends the program to everybody.

Chase the Ace: The winner of the bottle of wine was not present  ...the ace is still intact.....

Quote of the Week:
D-I-E-T means, Did T Eat That?
          Miniars Quote

Pres Mike then thanked all members and visitors for attending and closed the meeting with the national anthem.
