Meeting of 8th March 
President Mike  opened the meeting and welcomed our guest speaker David Archibald and all of our Rotarians present. 
 
Announcements
 
Gordon Hudson : Gave an up date on the Wheelchairs for Kids project.   W4Ks have now made 40,000 chairs with a a workforce of over 220 volunteers.   There is a waiting list of people wishing to join the volunteers but the waiting list has now closed!

Dave Taylor : Announced that he will be holding a demonstration of the club Website at Guy Lehmanns office (196 Scarborough Beach Rd, Doubleview WA 6018) on Friday 16th March at 6pm.  The demo/tute will be for about 90 minutes.  He suggested members/partners may like to bring their laptops.  We could then adjourn to Al Fornetto!
 
Dave also reported on the reinternment of the RC of Scarborough Beach's Time Capsule.  See pictures below.
 
SwapMart:  Alan Bennett reported a good day considering it was a long weekend with 247 bays sold with takings of $3999.
 
Rob Thompson: Announced that we would be hosting some students and teachers from Hong Kong at a club breakfast.   We would  be home hosting them for one night on Wednesday  11th April and then taking them to the club breakfast the following morning.  Rob passed a Board around for volunteers to home host.   All the visitors speak English.
 
Joe Angi: Again asked members to consider ordering more club tee shirts.  
 
 
Bob Phelps: Reported on PP Ron Mack.
 
Sgt Peter Simpson was then let loose mercilessly on the masses present. 
 
 
Guest Speaker:
Rob Thompson introduced David Archibald.  David was born in 1956 and graduated from Queensland University in geology in 1979, he worked in coal and Oil Shale exploration in Queensland and then in oil exploration with Exxon in Sydney. A period in stockbroking in Sydney as an analyst was followed by moving to Perth in 19999 to work for a private investor and then in oil and mineral exploration. 
David has also researched climate change and published books in that field.   He now works in cancer research.
 
David spoke to us today on the growth of China, their use of reefs in the South China Sea and how they had formed them into islands capable of military use.   David used various graphs and charts to compare the growth of China to USA and other countries.
 
After a plethora of questions, Rob Thompson gave a vote of thanks for a very interesting and enlightening talk.

Pres Mike then thanked all members for attending and closed the meeting with the national anthem.

  1. Meeting was opened by President Mike McAuliffe who asked Peter Whyte to read out the various motions.  Peter  stated that the special resolution  that was carried on the 23rd November 2017 be and is hereby rescinded. (The special resolution rescinded was we adopted the Model Rules of the Department of Commerce as our own). This was moved by Mike McAuliffe and seconded by Hugh Frost.  All eligible voters present voted for this motion.
  2. Peter Whyte then read the motion that the Constitution approved by the Department of Commerce (and previously circulated)to be adopted by the Rotary Clubs in District 9455 be adopted by this Club.
  3. Motion moved by Mike McAuliffe and seconded by Hugh Frost.  All eligible voters present voted for this motion.
 
Meeting ended at 0735am.
