Changeover Night
Ishka Restaurant at Hillarys Boat Harbour was the place to be on 24th June to celebrate the end of the Rotary year and the hear from incoming President Jon Stokes.
Outgoing President Darren spoke about the previous 2 years including the increase in membership (11 new members in 25/26), the donations we have made or facilitated (totaling $83,283) and the many projects we have been involved in.
The outgoing board was thanked, and the incoming board was welcomed.
President Darren also spoke about the future and some of the exciting projects ahead.
We said goodbye to our Brazillian exchange student Manu who will be shortly be heading home after almost 12 months in Australia.
Manu gave an entertaining presentation about her year in Australia including all the things she has done and what she learned.
Scarborough Rotary has been a supporter of Rotary Youth Exchange for many years. We are looking forward to welcoming Rebecca, our next incoming exchange student from Italy, later this month.
Welcome Sedin
We welcomed our newest member Sedin Hasanovic to the club in June.
With a background in Computer Science and Data Science, and a Diploma in Project Management, Sedin brings a strong blend of technical capability and structured project delivery to his work.
He oversees system implementation, organisational reporting, and dashboard development, helping translate datasets into practical insights that support Recfishwest’s programs and initiatives.
Alongside his professional role, Sedin is currently undertaking a Master’s by Research part-time, exploring the use of AI and Machine Learning to analysis remote camera monitors on Fish Aggregating Devices.
His research interests focus on how infrastructure and initiatives can influence participation and engagement in recreational fishing.
Outside of work, Sedin is a passionate recreational fisher, loves working on cars, drawing, and bouldering.
12 Buckets
It was interesting to hear recently from Larissa Muir, CEO of 12 Buckets, an organisation who provide mentoring and support for selected primary school children.
Larissa shared some inspiring stories about the work 12 Buckets is doing and what they hope to achieve in the future.
Bill Nuttall
After 51 years in Rotary Bill Nuttall has decided it is time to retire.
Bill has contributed in so many ways to Rotary including:
President during 1983/84
Organising the annual Conti Wine fundraising event
Organising Swapmart
Management Committee of the Scarborough Rotary Trust
John Pizey Award winner, and many more.
Bill has contributed mightily to his community and our club over decades, always with a smile and a wry sense of humour.
We salute Bill and his wife Linley - two people who epitomise the philosophy of Rotary - "Service above Self".
Congratulations to Greg Nolan who won the Chase the Ace taking home a whopping $1,048.70, meaning the same amount was raised to fund club activities.
Greg thanks all Rotarians who made him a donation. 😄
The Chase the Ace has now re set with the prize currently $126. Be sure to get some tickets to be in with a chance of winning the next time it goes off.
The Karrinyup Swapmart is our club's major fundraiser and enables us to do the projects we do.
The Swapmart has a noticeably larger presence on social media recently, thanks to the work of Laurie Joseph.
A big thank you to the Swapmart team and the Rotarians who give up their time to volunteer on Sunday morning.

2026 Photo Awards: The extraordinary ordinary
The pictures featured in this year's photo awards are simply sublime.
The English poet and printmaker William Blake saw angels in the treetops, spoke with his fellow poet John Milton — who died 83 years before Blake was born — and received insightful tips about engraving from his brother Robert, also dead.
As evidenced by his luminous poetry and prints, Blake was a visionary, someone with an eye for the miraculous, even when mired in the mundane. The photographers featured in this issue possess a comparable talent, but rather than rely on an assist from the seraphim, they use a camera to detect the wonders of daily life that are hiding in plain sight.
