12 Buckets is an organisation that supports the social and emotional well-being of children who are experiencing disadvantage and hardship. These are the children who are most at risk of homelessness. Their mentoring program matches volunteer mentors with children who need extra support.
The volunteer mentor meets with the child for 1 hour / week during the school terms in a Primary school in the northern metropolitan suburbs. The program is about building a relationship that can go a long way for a child that may lack emotional support from an adult in their life.

We have been fortunate to have had a series of interesting speakers join us at the Club recently.
Highlights include:
Club member and owner of Ground CivilEthan Dadras provided an update on the current residential land shortage and challenges facing the land development industry.
Sedin Hasanovic spoke to us about Recfishwest and the very topical issues around the recently announced restrictions on fishing demersal fishing.
Juianne Sullivan from Forefront Wellbeing spoke about the challenges of managing a team and provided tips on improving wellbeing for both business and personal benefit.
Lift the Lid Walk I Physical Health for Mental Health I 3rd May 2026
For the second consecutive year the Rotary Clubs of Scarborough, Osborne Park and Karrinyup combined to hold a "Lift the Lid walk to riase funds for Australian Rotary Health and it's important work on Mental Health research.
The day was very successful with some $6,000 raised for Australian Rotary Health.

Sandakan Ceremony
President Darren Meakins and Past District Governor Fred Marsh recently represented the Rotary Club of Scarborough at a Sandakan Ceremony organised by Carine Senior High School.
The Sandakan Ceremony is an event that honours the memory of those who suffered and died during the Sandakan Death marches in Borneo during World War 2.
Congratulations to Greg Nolan who won the Chase the Ace taking home a whopping $1,048.70, meaning the same amount was raised to fund club activities.
Greg thanks all Rotarians who made him a donation. 😄
The Chase the Ace now re sets with the prize currently $103. Be sure to get some tickets to be in with a chance of winning the next time it goes off.
The Karrinyup Swapmart is our club's major fundraiser and enables us to do the projects we do.
The Swapmart has a noticeably larger presence on social media recently, thanks to the work of Laurie Joseph.
A big thank you to the Swapmart team and the Rotarians who give up their time to volunteer on Sunday morning.
Rotary International Convention
The Rotary International convention in 2026 will be held in Taipei. Taiwan from 13-17 June.
We'll have some representatives from Scarborough there so if you think you might be interested in attending check out the convention website here.

She was starting to become cynical when her commander suggested she join Rotary. She eventually became president-elect of the Rotary Club of Ancaster A.M. in Ontario and was sent to the Rotary International Convention in England. “I walked into the House of Friendship and was gobsmacked,” she says. “I could not believe the good that was going on in the world.”
