Australian Doctors for Africa

Graham is a Western Australian Orthopaedic Surgeon with primary medical degrees from The University of Western Australia, and fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and Australian Orthopaedic Association. Following the tsunami of Boxing Day 2004, Graham assembled an emergency and traumatology team to provide assistance in Bosaso, Somalia, at the request of local doctors and surgeons. From that visit in February 2005, Australian Doctors for Africa was incorporated as an organisation to help sustainable development of surgical, medical and health services in Africa. Graham continues as a busy Orthopaedic Surgeon in Perth and includes outreach to the Kimberley region of Western Australia, and Cocos (Keeling) and Christmas Islands. Recognition has been received by the Order of Australia (AM), the John Curtin Medal, the G M Bedbrook Oration of the AOA, Australia Day Citizen of the Year, nomination for the Australian of the Year (WA) and the Ethiopian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Award. |

We all know someone who is suffering or has suffered from anxiety, depression, or sadly, more serious mental health challenges. If you are concerned about these pressing issues - please join us on the Rotary community walk for mental health awareness on the 22nd, June 2025, starting at 9.00am. We are promoting “physical health for mental health” – walking and talking about these pressing issues – making people aware of the extent of mental health challenges, AND what can be done to help others.
You can register using this link - https://www.liftthelidwalk.com.au/scarborough You receive a t-shirt – a free coffee voucher to be used at the Rendezvous Hotel on the day and a 15% food discount voucher to be used at Zoie’s Café – Scarborough – valid until 31st August 2025. We are also giving out water for the walkers.
Rest assured that 100% of the proceeds for the event will go to vital and carefully selected Mental Health Research. The research will be into the Mental Health and well-being of our vulnerable 0-12-year-old children. |

Brain Tumour Research

Dr Brittany Dewdney is a molecular biologist specialising in biochemistry, genetics, and metabolism working at the The Kids Research Institute Australia. She has a wide range of skills and knowledge in the field of medical science and disease, completing a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and human genetics, a Master’s degree in biomedical science with a research focus on ischemic stroke, and a PhD in cancer metabolism and targeted therapies in primary liver cancer. Dr Dewdney joined the Cancer Centre as a postdoctoral researcher to understand the mechanisms behind cell signalling and drug resistance in high-grade glioma. She is passionate about clinical translational research and she is working towards using her knowledge and expertise to develop new therapeutic strategies for treating high-grade glioma. |
