Becoming a Member

Wondering about how to join or become a Rotarian?

Scarborough Rotary Club seeks people who are willing to give of themselves to improve the wellbeing of the community. By contributing to the Club’s meetings, social activities, and projects you can participate in a not-for-profit community based enterprise that has links across the entire world. You can also expect the chance to develop long-lasting networks and friendships with like-minded men and women, build your leadership skills and take part in exciting opportunities to promote peace across the globe.

Members are asked to participate in the Club’s Sunday SwapMart about once every two months which involves being rostered on duty from 6am til 11am, or erecting barriers the day before.

Members always have input into the Club, and ideas are valued and welcomed. The Club rotates its various roles on a regular basis, and more information about these or our different programs will be provided upon joining. Business mentoring is also available from our Club or from the wider Rotary community.

Becoming involved in Rotary is truly an international affair. About 30,000 Rotarians and partners get together from around the world annually, in a new major city each year (the 2016 Convention was in Sao Paolo, Brazil). As a Rotarian, you will be made very welcome when travelling to visit any other Rotary Club in the world, and great things can happen. There are also opportunities to work overseas on Rotary projects in a vocational training team or on an approved project.

But we’re also about fun! The group has many social activities that often include partners and families, such as movie nights, weekends away, picnics and of course, international events.

The characteristics we look for in new members are people who are engaged in the Club and its projects, have the commitment to actively participate, are aware of the Rotary ideals and can be confidently nominated as a member.

We would encourage you to think about contacting us if you feel you could contribute to the Club. You will have the chance to see local projects that are close to your heart be fulfilled and have the satisfaction of seeing what a difference we can make overseas to communities in need. You will be joining a global network of like-minded individuals who share the same goals and ideals that you have – to help make our world a better place.

Membership costs are $280 per annum, which part-proceeds go towards Rotary projects. If you’re interested in being involved in the broader Club that meet each Thursday morning at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, you will also need to cover the cost of breakfast. However, if you’re interested in joining the New Generations group, it meets on the second Monday evening each month in a central CBD location. Whilst you’re new to the group you can participate in our activities as a ‘Friend of Rotary’, meaning you can learn more about Rotary and the Club before making the commitment to be a fully-fledged member.
